When the guests enter the room they see a clock that is 15 minutes til midnight. Suddenly the hands rotate until the clock reads 12:00.

This is a really simple effect to achieve. All you have to do is drill a hole in the clock face at the top, just slightly to the right of center (about 1/8"). Then attach fishing line to the large hand, and remove the batteries from the clock. Then when the time comes to make the clock change, just gently pull on the fishing line to make the hand rotate up. It is a also a good idea to not have a second hand on the clock, so either remove it, cut it off, or buy a clock without one. I found this clock at K-mart for about $15.
